Biological Conservation is an international leading journal in the discipline of conservation biology. The journal publishes articles spanning a diverse range of fields that contribute to the biological, sociological, and economic dimensions of conservation and natural resource management. The primary aim of Biological Conservation is the publication of high-quality papers that advance the science and practice of conservation, or which demonstrate the application of conservation principles for natural resource management and policy. Therefore it will be of interest to a broad international readership.Biological Conservation invites the submission of research articles, reviews (including systematic reviews and perspectives), short communications and letters to the editor dealing with all aspects of conservation science, including theoretical and empirical investigations into the consequences of human actions for the diversity, structure and function of terrestrial, aquatic or marine ecosystems. Such papers may include quantitative assessments of extinction risk, fragmentation effects, spread of invasive organisms, conservation genetics, conservation management, global change effects on biodiversity, landscape or reserve design and management, restoration ecology, or resource economics. The journal's coverage of interdisciplinary topics within conservation biology is highly relevant to scientists at academic, research and non-governmental institutions. The journal also provides practical applications of conservation research for land/resource managers and policy makers charged with protecting biological diversity and ultimately implementing conservation science into conservation practice.Biological Conservation is an affiliate publication of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). SCB members can obtain a personal subscription to this journal through the Society.

Biological aspects include electrophysiology and biochemical assessments during psychological experiments as well as biologically induced changes in psychological function. Psychological investigations based on biological theories are also of interest. All aspects of psychological functioning, including psychopathology, are germane. The Journal concentrates on work with human subjects, but may consider work with animal subjects if conceptually related to issues in human biological psychology. Empirical reports are the core of the Journal, but review articles as well as technical notes relevant to biological psychology are encouraged. A brief report section publishes well written papers of fewer than 1500 words with minimal delay from the submission date. Critical commentaries of relevance to our readership are also considered. Finally, Biological Psychology regularly publishes special issues on selected topics within its scope.Benefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. The focus of the journal is on the integration of many research efforts in addressing the challenge of creating a real-life computational equivalent of the human mind. Therefore, the journal publishes on the multidisciplinary study of cognitive architectures found in vivo and in silico. To help foster a wider understanding, at a computational level, of how natural intelligent systems develop their cognitive, metacognitive, and learning functions, the journal will promote the overarching goal of creating one unifying widespread framework for the computational modeling of biologically inspired cognitive architectures. The scope includes (but is not limited to):Cognitive science, with a focus on higher cognitive functions and their cognitive architecture models: including autonomous cognition and metacognition, imagery, sensemaking, meta-learning, self-regulated learning, life-long learning and cognitive growth, "critical mass" of a learner, models of creativity, affects, emotions and feelings, emotional competence, social cognition, the self, human-like episodic memory, language perception, processing, production, acquisition, and development;Computer science and engineering, with a focus on human-like artificial intelligence: cognitive architectures, virtual and physical cognitive robotics, synthetic characters, bootstrapped and human-like learning, human-computer interface, vision, computational linguistics, intelligent tutoring systems;Neuroscience, with a focus on higher cognition and learning: system-level computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, models of the neural substrates of semantic and episodic memory and awareness, agency, emotions and feelings, theory of mind and social cognition, language, imagery, voluntary control, goal and value systems, spatial cognition, etc.Contributions to the journal should include a cognitive architecture element and an element of biological inspiration, the latter understood broadly (e.g., inspiration by the human cognition). Both mature and new cutting edge research are welcomed, provided they have a strong emphasis on concrete empirical or theoretical studies. Submissions of a purely philosophical nature are discouraged and will be redirected elsewhere.

Biomass and Bioenergy is an international journal publishing original research papers and short communications, review articles and case studies on biological resources, chemical and biological processes, and biomass products for new renewable sources of energy and materials. The scope of the journal extends to the environmental, management and economic aspects of biomass and bioenergy.Key areas covered by the journal:• Biomass: sources, energy crop production processes, genetic improvements, composition. Please note that research on these biomass subjects must be linked directly to bioenergy generation.• Biological Residues: residues/rests from agricultural production, forestry and plantations (palm, sugar etc), processing industries, and municipal sources (MSW). Papers on the use of biomass residues through innovative processes/technological novelty and/or consideration of feedstock/system sustainability (or unsustainability) are welcomed. However waste treatment processes and pollution control or mitigation which are only tangentially related to bioenergy are not in the scope of the journal, as they are more suited to publications in the environmental arena. Papers that describe conventional waste streams (ie well described in existing literature) that do not empirically address 'new' added value from the process are not suitable for submission to the journal.• Bioenergy Processes: fermentations, thermochemical conversions, liquid and gaseous fuels, and petrochemical substitutes• Bioenergy Utilization: direct combustion, gasification, electricity production, chemical processes, and by-product remediation• Biomass and the Environment: carbon cycle, the net energy efficiency of bioenergy systems, assessment of sustainability, and biodiversity issues. The journal does not accept for review papers on the following subjects:• Performance of fuel combustion in engines• Technical aspects of first generation biofuels• Soil science papers with no direct linking to bioenergy generation• Isolation of yeast/bacterial strains• Purely analytical biochemistry derived studies that have no direct linking to bioenergy generationBenefits to authorsWe also provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. Biomaterials is an international journal covering the science and clinical application of biomaterials. A biomaterial is now defined as a substance that has been engineered to take a form which, alone or as part of a complex system, is used to direct, by control of interactions with components of living systems, the course of any therapeutic or diagnostic procedure. It is the aim of the journal to provide a peer-reviewed forum for the publication of original papers and authoritative review and opinion papers dealing with the most important issues facing the use of biomaterials in clinical practice. The scope of the journal covers the wide range of physical, biological and chemical sciences that underpin the design of biomaterials and the clinical disciplines in which they are used. These sciences include polymer synthesis and characterization, drug and gene vector design, the biology of the host response, immunology and toxicology and self assembly at the nanoscale. Clinical applications include the therapies of medical technology and regenerative medicine in all clinical disciplines, and diagnostic systems that reply on innovative contrast and sensing agents.
