Published since 1901 (under various titles), this monthly journal is the primary publishing vehicle for the multidisciplinary field of aquatic sciences. It publishes perspectives (syntheses, critiques, and re-evaluations), discussions (comments and replies), articles, and rapid communications, relating to current research on cells, organisms, populations, ecosystems, or processes that affect aquatic systems. The journal seeks to amplify, modify, question, or redirect accumulated knowledge in the field of fisheries and aquatic science. For primary biodiversity data authors are strongly encouraged to place all species distribution records in a publicly accessible database such as the national Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) nodes (www.gbif.org) or data centres endorsed by GBIF, including BioFresh (www2.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu) for freshwater data.

Continental Shelf Research publishes articles dealing with the physical oceanography, sedimentology, geology, chemistry, biology and ecology of the shallow marine environment, from coastal and estuarine water out to the shelf break. Papers that are published present results from both fundamental, original research as well as applied, or directed research.Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary process-oriented contributions, and encouragement is given to the publication of the results of innovative experimental studies with more general applicability.Continental Shelf Research publishes occasional review articles. It also includes a section on Notes, Instrumentation and Methods. Furthermore, papers are open for written discussion for up to three months following publication and both the discussion and the author's response are published.Continental Shelf Research also publishes special issues dedicated to results of large interdisciplinary studies or topical issues on specific subjects.Note to Authors: When considering submission of a manuscript to CSR, bear in mind that recent analyses show that published papers are downloaded by scientists from over 90 countries world-wide. This level of usage emphasizes the need for authors to present their research results in a broad context, to be of interest to this international community. Likewise, when suggesting the four reviewers for a manuscript, an international perspective of individual scientists (not necessarily affiliated with CSR) should be considered.

Copeia is a broadly based scientific journal of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists (ASIH). It publishes results of original research performed by members in which fish, amphibians, or reptiles are utilized as study organisms.The American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists is dedicated to the scientific study of fishes, amphibians and reptiles. Coral Reefs, the Journal of the International Society for Reef Studies, presents multidisciplinary literature across the broad fields of reef studies, publishing analytical and theoretical papers on both modern and ancient reefs. The areas covered are ichthyology, aquaculture, ecology, diseases of fish and other aquatic organisms, problems of open waters as well as all other topics connected to fisheries. Diatom Research is the journal of the International Society for Diatom Research. The journal is published quarterly, in March, June, September and December, and welcomes manuscripts on any aspect of diatom biology. In addition to full-length papers, short notes and reviews of recent literature are published which need not contain all the sections required for full-length papers; we see these as being necessary to record information which is of interest but which cannot be followed up in detail. Discursive 8220;Opinion8221; papers are encouraged which would not necessarily follow the normal lay-out. If extremely long papers are to be offered, the author(s) should contact the editors first to discuss any problems. Book reviews, obituaries and meeting reports can be published. All papers will be subject to critical review by the editors and referees, as appropriate to their content. Papers will be accepted in English only.

Ecohydrology is an international journal publishing original scientific and review papers that aim to improve understanding of processes at the interface between ecology and hydrology and associated applications related to environmental management. Ecohydrology seeks to increase interdisciplinary insights by placing particular emphasis on interactions and associated feedbacks in both space and time between ecological systems and the hydrological cycle. Research contributions are solicited from disciplines focusing on the physical, ecological, biological, biogeochemical, geomorphological, drainage basin, mathematical and methodological aspects of ecohydrology. Research in both terrestrial and aquatic systems is of interest provided it explicitly links ecological systems and the hydrologic cycle; research such as aquatic ecological, channel engineering, or ecological or hydrological modelling is less appropriate for the journal unless it specifically addresses the criteria above. Manuscripts describing individual case studies are of interest in cases where broader insights are discussed beyond site- and species-specific results. The Journal also publishes research on new instrumentation and techniques if they describe truly new and significant advances in methodology that can be broadly applied to the ecohydrological understanding and management of environmental systems. Occasional special issues will be published that cover themes emergent from conferences, ecological and hydrological science societies and key research topics. Ecohydrology welcomes the submission of comment/reply on previously published papers. Such submissions should preferably be in the form of a short paper not exceeding 2000 words and relate to papers previously published in the Journal. All papers for Ecohydrology should be prepared in accordance with the notes for contributors.

Ecohydrology & Hydrobiology is an international journal that aims to advance ecohydrology as the study of the interplay between ecological and hydrological processes from molecular to river basin scales, and to promote its implementation as an integrative management tool to harmonize societal needs with biosphere potential.Water is a major driver of biogeochemical evolution and hence of biodiversity and biological productivity (e.g., food production). In human-modified, degraded systems, therefore, regulation of ecohydrological processes is the most relevant way for achieving sustainability.An essential component of ecohydrology is a rigorous understanding of hydrobiology, from ecosystem properties, dynamics and functions to modelling of abiotic and biotic interactions in relation to their hydrological determinants at the basin scale.The journal will publish high-quality science aimed at increasing the understanding of water – biota interplay and exploring how this knowledge can be used to regulate hydrological and biogeochemical processes to enhance the carrying capacity, especially of anthropogenically modified ecosystems. Research addressing one or several of the following issues will be of prime interest to the journal if it:Leads to new insights into the interactions of water, nutrient and pollutant cycles with biotic components of ecosystems;Employs this understanding for developing ecosystem biotechnologies and system solutions;Identifies possibilities to integrate engineering infrastructure with ecohydrological biotechnologies into system solutions at the catchment scale;Translates transdisciplinary knowledge into decision-support tools;Targets biodiversity, quality and quantity of water resources, ecosystem processes and functioning (including environmental flows), ecosystem services and/or ecosystem resilience as necessary components for enhanced carrying capacity;Is policy-oriented and, within the scope of the journal, addresses the priorities and objectives of international initiatives such as the Millennium Development Goals and UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme.

The journal publishes original articles on all aspects of fish ecology and fishery sciences in lakes, rivers and estuaries, including ecologically oriented studies of behaviour, genetics and physiology and the conservation, development and management of recreational and commercial fisheries. Reports of studies examining ecological questions in an evolutionary framework are published as well, including research papers addressing evolutionary ecology, behavioral ecology, population ecology, and population biology. Papers dealing with the life stages of anadromous and catadromous species in estuaries and inshore coastal zones are also published if they contribute to the general understanding of fish ecology. Theoretical papers and studies of impact assessment and modeling are published if they generate testable hypotheses about real systems (fish communities, populations and/or species) or if published data are re-analysed to produce novel conclusions or syntheses. Articles, letters and reviews are published based on their scientific content. Occasionally, the proceedings of conferences and symposia are published if they are relevant and timely.

Environmental Biology of Fishes is an international journal that publishes original studies on the ecology, life history, epigenetics, behavior, physiology, morphology, systematics and evolution of marine and freshwater fishes. Empirical and theoretical papers are published that deal with the relationship between fishes and their external and internal environment, whether natural or unnatural. Estuaries and Coasts is the journal of the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation. It publishes original research on the hydrodynamics, hydrology, (geo)chemistry, geology, biology and their interactions in marine waters influenced by connectivity to land. The journal's geographic scope includes coastal watersheds, tidal rivers, estuaries, lagoons, inland seas, wetlands, and near-shore coastal waters from polar to equatorial latitudes. The Editors encourage submissions that present novel approaches, findings or concepts of general interest to better understand the functioning and structure of coastal systems and will interest the journal's increasingly international readership. Submissions that are primarily descriptive, strongly place based, or report on development of models or new methods without detailing their applications fall outside the scope of the journal.

Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science is an international multidisciplinary journal devoted to the analysis of saline water phenomena ranging from the outer edge of the continental shelf to the upper limits of the tidal zone.
