Food Additives & Contaminants: Part B - Surveillance

ISSN: 1939-3210eISSN: 1939-3229

Food Additives & Contaminants: Part B publishes surveillance data indicating the presence and levels of occurrence of designated food additives, residues and contaminants in foods and animal feed. Data using validated methods must meet stipulated quality standards to be acceptable and must be presented in a prescribed format for subsequent data-handling. Food Additives & Contaminants: Part B has a restricted scope in terms of classes of food additives, residues and contaminants that are included, being based on a goal of covering those areas where there is a need to record surveillance data for the purposes of exposure and risk assessment. The scope is initially restricted to: 1. Additives - food colours, artificial sweeteners, and preservatives; 2. Residues - veterinary drug and pesticide residues; 3. Contaminants - metals, mycotoxins, phycotoxins, plant toxins, nitrate/nitrite, PCDDs/PCFDs, PCBs, PAHs, acrylamide, 3-MPCD and contaminants derived from food packaging. Papers reporting surveillance data in areas other than the above should be submitted to Part A. The scope of Part B will be expanded from time-to-time to ensure inclusion of new areas of concern. Readership The readership includes scientists involved in all aspects of food safety and quality and particularly those involved in monitoring human exposure to chemicals from the diet. For a journal statement regarding "Long term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize", published in Food and Chemical Toxicology, Volume 50, Issue 11, November 2012, Pages 4221-4231, please click here.Food and Chemical Toxicology (FCT), an internationally renowned journal, aspires to publish original research articles and reviews on toxic effects, in animals or humans, of natural or synthetic chemicals occurring in the human environment with particular emphasis on food, drugs, and chemicals, including agricultural and industrial safety, and consumer product safety. Areas such as safety evaluation of novel foods and ingredients, biotechnologically-derived products, and nanomaterials are included in the scope of the journal. FCT also encourages submission of papers on inter-relationships between nutrition and toxicology and on in vitro techniques, particularly those fostering the 3 Rs.The principal aim of the journal is to publish high impact, scholarly work and to serve as a multidisciplinary forum for research in toxicology. Papers submitted will be judged on the basis of scientific originality and contribution to the field, quality and subject matter. Studies should address at least one of the following:Physiological, biochemical, or pathological changes induced by specific substancesTechniques for assessing potential toxicity, including molecular biologyMechanisms underlying toxic phenomenaToxicological examinations of specific chemicals or consumer products, both those showing adverse effects and those demonstrating safety, that meet current standards of scientific acceptabilityManuscripts concerning materials/substances of only local interest for which the chemical composition of the material/substance is not clearly defined will not be considered. Manuscripts addressing only pharmacological properties, or only potentially beneficial effects using in in vitro or in vivo systems, are not within the scope of the journal.FCT is committed to the highest standards. Only papers that have not been previously published, that fit in the above mentioned scope, and that have been reviewed by experts in the field prior to publication will be accepted. Cover letters must state that the paper is new and original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Papers pending in other journals will not be considered. Co-authors should be individuals who have contributed substantially to the content of the papers.Benefits to authorsWe provide many author benefits, such as free PDFs, a liberal copyright policy, special discounts on Elsevier publications and much more. Green Chemistry

eISSN: 1463-9270

Green Chemistry provides a unique forum for the publication of innovative research on the development of alternative green and sustainable technologies. Based on the, but not limited to, the twelve principles of green chemistry defined by Anastas and Warner (Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice, P T Anastas and J C Warner, Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1998). Green chemistry is, by definition, a continuously-evolving frontier. Therefore, the inclusion of a particular material or technology does not, of itself, guarantee that a paper is suitable for the journal. To be suitable, the novel advance should have the potential for reduced environmental impact relative to the state of the art. Green Chemistry does not normally deal with research associated with 'end-of-pipe' or remediation issues.

C. elegans RDE-4 is a double-stranded RNA binding protein that has been shown to play a key role in response to foreign double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). We have used diverse tools for analysis of gene function to characterize the domain and organismal foci of RDE-4 action in C. elegans. First, we examined the focus of activity within the RDE-4 protein, by testing a series of RDE-4 deletion constructs for their ability to support dsRNA-triggered gene silencing. These assays indicated a molecular requirement for a linker region and the second dsRNA-binding domain of RDE-4, with ancillary contributions to function from the C and N terminal domains. Second, we used mosaic... continue reading.
